In the woodworking process, many details can affect the final quality, precision and appearance, especially the choice of CNC woodworking machine drill bits. The selection of suitable tools according to different processing materials and different processing techniques is an important factor to ensure fast and efficient production. Today Leapion Laser shares the following.

The types of milling cutters commonly used in woodworking CNC machine tools are:

1. Face milling cutter:

The circumferential surface and the end face of the face mill have cutting edges, and the end cutting edges are minor cutting edges. Face milling cutters are mostly made of sleeve insert structure, the cutter teeth are high-speed steel or cemented carbide, and the cutter body is 40Cr

2. End mill:

End mills are also called flat-bottomed cutters. There are cutting edges on the cylindrical surface and end face of the end mill. They can be cut at the same time or individually. The cutting edge on the cylindrical surface of the end mill is the main cutting edge, and the cutting edge on the end face is the secondary cutting edge.

Note that because there is a groove in the middle of the end face of the end mill, axial feed cannot be performed.

End mills are mainly used for contour cutting, plane milling, area rough engraving, surface rough engraving, etc.

3. Mould milling cutter:

The structural feature of the die milling cutter is that the ball head or end face is covered with cutting edges, and the circumferential edge is connected with the arc of the ball head edge, which can be used for radial and axial feed.

4. Keyway milling cutter:

The drum cutter has two teeth, the cylindrical face and the end face have cutting edges, and the end face edge extends to the center. When machining, the axial feed is first to reach the groove depth, and then the full length of the keyway is milled along the keyway direction.

5. Drum milling cutter:

The cutting edges of the drum milling cutter are distributed on the arc surface with a radius of R, and there is no cutting edge on the end face. During processing, the upper and lower positions of the tool are controlled, and different bevel angles from negative to positive can be cut on the workpiece corresponding to the cutting part of the blade on the surface. The smaller the R, the wider the range of bevel angles that can be machined by the drum cutter.

6. Forming milling cutter:

Generally, they are specially designed and manufactured for a specific workpiece or processing content.

7. Ball end milling cutter

The edge of the ball milling cutter is arc-shaped, which forms a hemispherical shape during the engraving process of the woodworking cutting machine. Ball mills are not suitable for milling planes.

8. Conical flat bottom milling cutter, referred to as conical milling cutter

They are the most widely used in the entire engraving industry. The bottom edge of a tapered cutter, commonly known as the tip, is similar to a column cutter and can be used for facet finishing. The side edge of the tapered router bit is angled at an angle, creating sloping sides during the engraving process.

The structural characteristics of the conical router bit can make it achieve the unique three-dimensional angle clearing effect in the engraving industry.

Conical milling cutter is mainly used for single-line engraving, regional rough engraving, regional fine engraving, 3D clear angle, projection engraving, image grayscale engraving, etc.
